Children's books are able to live inclusion

"I wrote and illustrated the very children's book I have been searching for my daughter in vain. I am pleased that so many families are able to identify with this story."Nele Junghanns

"Auf dem Spielplatz" (On the Playground) by Nele Junghanns is about Marie, a nonverbal little girl living with profound physical disabilities. It tells us how Marie finds a friend on the playground. However, it is not only a book for families with disabled children, but especially for children - and their parents - who have not encountered any people with disabilities yet or who are not sure how to get in touch with them. "Being a mother, what hurts most are people passing us looking the other way or drawing their children away from us even curiosity is written in their face."

This book answers questions about Marie's disability or why she needs a feeding tube to eat in an open-minded and comprehensible way. At the same time, the book encourages all of us to ask questions without playing on our heart strings or pointing the finger. In this book, Ben takes his time to cope with the answers he gets until he is able to step up to Marie - and this is absolutely okay.
