Animal Sponsorship

Since February 2022, we have been sponsoring a red panda (or lesser panda) at Heidelberg Zoo.

The red panda is not as well known as the giant panda but no less adorable. Both pandas only share the same name; they belong to different species. The red panda is a small endangered mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and northwestern China. The worldwide population in the wild is estimated to amount to 10,000 pandas.

When we visited our little friends at Heidelberg Zoo, the red pandas showed us that they were exceptionally good climbers. In general, they spend the whole day in high treetops and go searching for food at night.

The red panda is considerably threatened by hunting and by the destruction of its habitat. Our animal sponsorship will help conserve this cute raccoon and ensure the survival of the endangered red panda. It was in 2021 when the zoo was finally able to welcome the first baby panda born in captivity for almost 20 years.

The sponsorship supports animal welfare and helps the zoo fund the food and equip and redesign the compound and ensures the medical treatment of the pandas.
