Therapy chairs and hi-lo bases
A standing frame is designed for physically and/or mentally disabled children, teenagers and adults who are not able to stand in an upright position on their own. Most of these individuals are hypotonic showing a decreased muscle tone.
Therapy chairs help children and young people who are unable to sit up independently due to physical and/or mental disabilities. These young people are usually hypertonic, meaning they have significantly increased muscle tension, or they are hypotonic, meaning they are rather limp with low muscle tension. Therapy chairs are considered seating aids that combine a seat unit with a fixed base. They are mostly used indoors, but some models can also be used outdoors (e.g. Nele with outdoor base frame). If a standardised or custom-made seat shell is to be used, it is positioned on a room base frame. Whether a therapy chair or room base frame, both options meet many requirements, such as height adjustment and seat tilt.
