An own upright and supine stander for David

2023 started with a donation of a standing device through mannl + hauck for a boy who is cared for at the Rückersdorf Institute for blind people. We are all very pleased about the feedback we have just received from one of his caregivers.

David is a handsome twelve-year-old boy who has been living and going to school at the Rückersdorf Institute for some time. He has a rare genetic defect which results in David being physically and mentally handicapped. At the Institute, David receives many therapies to support him and keep him healthy, for example special visual support, speech therapy and therapeutic riding. To strengthen his bones and muscles, the so-called "standing therapy" is particularly important for David.

Standing in an upright and supine stander (colloquially known as a standing frame) has many positive effects on David's body: his muscles and bones are strengthened, ligaments and tendons are stretched, his metabolism is boosted, David can experience his body in a different spatial position than sitting and lying down, and his lungs can be better ventilated. This training is particularly important for his hips, as they have been surgically corrected in recent years due to dysplasia, and standing every day ensures that the hips maintain their correct position.

Unfortunately, David's health insurance company refused to provide him with a new upright and supine stander when he had simply outgrown his. Together with David's mother and his medical supply store (mannl + hauck), the staff from the residential group tried to convince David's health insurance company of the importance of a standing frame specially adapted to David, but unfortunately without success.

At first it seemed like as if David's standing therapy would have to be discontinued, but then Rehatec came into play as a "saviour in need". The idea of lending David an upright and supine stander turned into a donation, because Rehatec gave David his own motor-driven (after all, the backs of the employees aren't getting any younger!) standing device, which he now uses diligently. On David's behalf, all those involved would like to thank Rehatec very much!
